Over the last hour...thunderstorm activity across central Louisiana has dissipated. Through 11 AM...scattered showers will continue to move northeast near 30 mph across interior southeast Texas and central Louisiana. Rainfall rates will be less than a tenth of an inch per hour. Went to the LHS today and picked up three items. This set of trackside buildings: Model Power #643  And two packs of Kadee Whisker couplers:  A pack of crossing gates and railroad crossing signals (non-op): Bachmann #42200  Then I hit Hobby Lobby for these two items. A Western Pacific flatcar from the Bachmann Silver Series and a 1969 Olds 442 from Model Power's Exclusive Collection.   |

Good morning. It's 47 and clear. The high today should be around 80 and it will be sunny and clear. Didn't get much done yesterday as the flu shot I got last week is doing what it's supposed to do, giving me a mild case of the flu. I should be over it in a couple of days they say. I do feel better today.

Good morning. It's 39 and clear. The high will be in the high 50's and it will be partly cloudy. My two Atlas GP40's are pulling a 23 car train around the layout this morning and aren't having a bit of trouble, and these are weighted cars too so it's no lightweight. The train is around 16 feet long. The BNSF SD40 is pulling a 19 car train around the inner loop. I don't expect to get much done on the layout today. I have to go see my PCP to get a referral to continue seeing the foot specialist whom I have to go see this afternoon. I also have to get refills on some of my prescriptions, including my insulin. What a joy that's gonna be. I planted 15 trees last night then hit the sack early. I was worn out. I planted 3 elms, 6 conifers and 6 cedars. I'll say one thing for Bachmann, their Scene Scape trees look pretty good but they are pricey, $10 for a box of 6, 3 in the case of the elms.

Through 5 AM...moisture will be lifted over a cold frontal boundary which extends from beyond 60 nm out from High Island to Atchafalaya Bay. This will continue widespread but light shower activity over the area east of the Sabine River and over the near shore waters west of Grand Chenier. Happy New Year. Welcome to 2009. It's 35 here and clear. The high today will be around 60 and it will be partly cloudy. I had intended for New Years to be a quiet time at home last night but that didn't happen. Just after 9 pm a group of twenty-somethings hauled me off to their party in my niece's trailer. I'm certain she was behind it. I can assure you that I was a perfect gentleman and didn't touch anything alcoholic. I watched them as they played their drinking games and when most of them were well plowed around 10:30 I made a bold dash for the door and made my escape with my sanity intact. The rap music they had going was about to drive me crazy! I went over to my sisters place and we watched 'Journey to the center of the earth' (the new one). About this time my parents arrived for the midnight festivities and we watched the ball drop at midnight (what little they showed of it) then I had a drink of a non-alcoholic sparkling berry champagne substitute and made a big dent in the ham and cheese audurves and the Chex Mix then went home. Of the original group of a dozen twenty-somethings five were still standing and three were actually coherent. If these people survive long enough to raise families I'll be surprised. They were really putting the beer and mixed drinks away. As for me I put my new Model Power Fire Station kit together then got a couple hours of sleep.
